Job summary

ABAKUS IT SOLUTIONS in Brussels seeks a Functional Analyst to join a major biometric identification programme, bridging business stakeholders with technical teams. You will translate business needs into functional specs and model processes using BPMN and UML, while ensuring quality through testing and validation.

The role requires strong experience in functional analysis, BPMN/UML, and SQL data analysis, with an emphasis on security and compliance in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Functional Analyst in complex IT environments.
• Strong knowledge of functional analysis methodologies and business process modelling.
• Solid experience gathering, analysing and documenting business requirements.
• Good understanding of BPMN and UML.
• Experience in Agile / Scrum; SAFe knowledge is a plus.
• Good command of Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint).
• Ability to work with SQL and relational databases at an analytical level.
• Understanding of APIs, cloud environments and basic DevOps concepts.
• Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.
• Knowledge of prototyping and wireframing is a strong advantage.
• Good understanding of IT security and compliance principles; experience in regulated environments is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language.
• Fluent professional English; knowledge of French and/or Dutch is an advantage.

ABAKUS IT SOLUTIONS is looking for a Functional Analyst to join a major digital transformation programme in Brussels, focused on the evolution of biometric identification systems. You will contribute to the ABIS (Automated Biometric Identification System) programme, a strategic initiative aimed at modernising fingerprint management and strengthening facial biometric capabilities. The project combines functional analysis, business process optimisation, data, APIs and modern IT technologies in a highly demanding and security-sensitive environment.As a Functional Analyst, you will act as the bridge between business stakeholders, end users and technical teams, ensuring that business needs are translated into clear, efficient and implementable solutions.

Your Mission

• Analyse and model business and user requirements.
• Gather, document, prioritise and manage functional requirements from different stakeholders.
• Manage one or more functional processes within the analysis domain.
• Translate business needs into detailed functional specifications.
• Analyse the impact of proposed changes on existing systems and business processes.
• Model processes and workflows using BPMN, UML or equivalent methodologies.
• Work closely with developers and technical teams to ensure that implemented solutions meet functional requirements.
• Define and document functional test scenarios and support test activities.
• Act as the main functional point of contact for the areas assigned to you.
• Contribute to solution validation and continuous improvement.
• Prepare and deliver user training when required.
• Contribute to prototypes or mock-ups when they help clarify and validate proposed solutions.

Technical Environment

You will work in an environment involving:

• Jira / Azure DevOps for project and task management.
• Microsoft 365, Teams and SharePoint for collaboration and documentation.
• Excel for advanced data analysis, including formulas, pivot tables and macros.
• Visio / Draw.io for process and workflow modelling.
• UML modelling tools, such as Enterprise Architect or equivalent.
• SQL / SQL Server / MySQL for data analysis and database exploration.
• Functional and non-functional testing tools and automation frameworks.
• APIs and integration concepts.
• AWS, Azure or equivalent cloud technologies.
• Git, Jenkins and DevOps / CI concepts.
• IT security and compliance principles, with knowledge of ISO standards being an advantage.
