Job summary

ABAKUS IT SOLUTIONS in Brussels seeks a Functional Analyst to join a major biometric identification programme, bridging business stakeholders with technical teams. You will translate business needs into functional specs and model processes using BPMN and UML, while ensuring quality through testing and validation.

The role requires strong experience in functional analysis, BPMN/UML, and SQL data analysis, with an emphasis on security and compliance in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Functional Analyst in complex IT environments.
• Strong knowledge of functional analysis methodologies and business process modelling.
• Solid experience gathering, analysing and documenting business requirements.
• Good understanding of BPMN and UML.
• Experience in Agile / Scrum; SAFe knowledge is a plus.
• Good command of Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint).
• Ability to work with SQL and relational databases at an analytical level.
• Understanding of APIs, cloud environments and basic DevOps concepts.
• Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.
• Knowledge of prototyping and wireframing is a strong advantage.
• Good understanding of IT security and compliance principles; experience in regulated environments is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language.
• Fluent professional English; knowledge of French and/or Dutch is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Analyse and model business and user requirements.
• Gather, document, prioritise and manage functional requirements from stakeholders.
• Translate business needs into detailed functional specifications.
• Analyse the impact of proposed changes on existing systems and processes.
• Model processes and workflows using BPMN, UML or equivalent.
• Collaborate with developers to ensure solutions meet requirements.
• Define and document functional test scenarios and support testing.
• Act as main functional contact for assigned areas.
• Contribute to solution validation and continuous improvement.
• Prepare and deliver user training when required.
• Contribute to prototypes where helpful for clarification.
