Job summary

VIB and KU Leuven invite applications for a Principal Investigator to join as a Group Leader at VIB and Professor at KU Leuven. The role focuses on AI and mechanistic models in biology, with opportunities to recruit PhD students and postdocs from around the world.

You will set up a strong research program, mentor postdocs, and contribute to teaching and service within both institutions, in English or Dutch. Start date 2027, with a competitive, renewable package.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in machine learning or a quantitative field.
• Excellent machine learning and programming experience.
• Proven ability to secure competitive funding.
• International working experience and fluency in English.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an independent research group within VIB and KU Leuven.
• Contribute to teaching in English or Dutch and supervise students.
• Provide scientific and strategic leadership to the center.
• Develop collaborations across VIB, KU Leuven, and international partners.
