Job summary

Yarra City Council is seeking a Youth Support Worker to deliver short to medium-term case management and community outreach for young people aged 12 to 25 with ties to the City of Yarra.

You will use strengths-based, trauma-informed practice to support intake, assessment, and referrals, meeting youth where they are—schools, libraries, and community hubs—to reduce barriers to support and improve outcomes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical sector experience).
• Solid background in casework, intake, assessment, and care coordination alongside young people and their families.
• Grounded understanding of key youth work frameworks, including person-centred practice, intersectionality, trauma-informed care, and youth participation principles.
• Strong intercultural communication skills, with experience supporting young people from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds.
• Reliable administrative habits, particularly with keeping accurate case notes, maintaining client privacy, and completing routine reporting.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence, National Police Check, and Victorian Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical short to medium-term case management and community outreach for young people aged 12 to 25 who live, work, study, or have ties to the City of Yarra.
• Guide young people through intake, holistic assessment, secondary consultation, and targeted service referrals using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.
• Meet young people in their own spaces and deliver outreach in local schools, libraries, and neighbourhood hubs to build rapport and reduce barriers to support.
• Contribute as a skilled youth or social worker within a collaborative local government team that values reflective practice and meaningful community outcomes.
