Job summary

Yarra City Council is seeking a Youth Support Worker to deliver practical case management and outreach for young people aged 12 to 25. You will apply strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches, meeting youths where they are and coordinating services within our Youth and Middle Years Unit.

You will join a supportive, dynamic team offering professional development, flexible work options, and clear pathways to growth within Council. This is a temporary full-time role based in Melbourne.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, or related discipline.
• Solid background in casework, intake, assessment, and care coordination alongside young people and their families.
• Grounded understanding of person-centred practice, intersectionality, trauma-informed care, and youth participation principles.
• Strong intercultural communication skills, with experience supporting young people from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds.
• Reliable administrative habits, particularly with keeping accurate case notes, maintaining client privacy, and completing routine reporting.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence, National Police Check, and Victorian Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical short to medium-term case management and community outreach for young people aged 12 to 25.
• Meet young people in their own spaces; deliver outreach in local schools, libraries and neighbourhood hubs.
• Guide youth through intake, holistic assessment, secondary consultation and targeted service referrals.
• Work in a collaborative local government team that values reflective practice and community outcomes.
