Job summary

Central Queensland Indigenous Development in Maryborough, QLD is seeking a Youth Justice Officer to support young people facing multiple challenges and involvement with the Youth Justice System. You will assess risks, develop case and safety plans, connect families to services, and work with community and government partners to improve safety, wellbeing and sustainable positive outcomes.

Qualifications

• Current C Class Queensland Driver's Licence.
• Current Working with Children Check/Blue Card.
• Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR Certificate.
• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology or related field.
• Understanding of contemporary issues in Child Protection/Youth Justice.
• Experience delivering services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Experience in client engagement and case collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Undertake intake, screening, and holistic assessments for young people involved in, or at risk of involvement with the youth justice system.
• Identify safety, wellbeing and offending-related risks and respond in line with procedures and legal requirements.
• Develop, implement, monitor and review individual case plans and safety plans with families.
• Provide trauma-informed, culturally safe support promoting participation, accountability and positive behaviour.
• Collaborate with CQID teams, Youth Justice, Child Safety, schools, police and community organisations to coordinate supports.
• Participate in case conferences, stakeholder meetings and review processes.

Purpose of the Role

The Youth Justice Officer's role will be expected to facilitate sustainable change with young people experiencing multiple and complex challenges such as involvement with the Youth Justice System.

The position assesses individual risks and needs, develops and implements case and safety plans, connects young people and families with appropriate services, and works collaboratively with community and government stakeholders to strengthen safety, wellbeing and sustainable positive outcomes.

The role exercises initiative and judgement within established organisational policies, procedures and accountability requirements.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Undertake intake, screening, and holistic assessments for young people involved in, or at risk of involvement with the youth justice system
• Identify safety, wellbeing and offending-related risks and respond in accordance with organisational procedures, relevant legislation and statutory requirements
• Develop, implement, monitor and review individual case plans, safety plans and practical goals in partnership with young people and their families
• Provide strength-based, trauma-aware and culturally safe support that promotes young people's participation, accountability, resilience and positive behaviour
• Build respectful and professional relationships with young people, families and significant others, always maintaining appropriate professional boundaries at all times
• Provide information, practical assistance, advocacy and supported referrals to education, health, housing, cultural, legal and other community services
• Work collaboratively with CQID teams, Youth Justice, Child Safety, schools, police, Health providers and community organisations to coordinate effective supports
• Participate in case conferences, stakeholder meetings, mediation, and review processes
• Contributing relevant information with privacy and consent requirements
• Engage effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families, communities, Elders and cultural supports, and with culturally and linguistically diverse families
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case notes, assessments, plans, reports
• Exercise initiative and judgement within established policies, and delegations, and the scope of the position, escalating complex or high-risk matters to the Team Leader or Manager
• Participate in supervision, training, and professional development
• Knowledge of Youth Justice, Child Protection and culturally responsive practice
• Child-safe practice, privacy, confidentiality, code of conduct, and all CQID Policies and Procedures
• Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQC)
• Work always to advance the reputation of CQID and undertake additional relevant duties as required
• Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQC)

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate capability in the following areas:

• Holds a current C Class Queensland Driver's Licence
• Current Working with Children Check, Blue Card'
• Holds or is willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology or another related field
• An understanding of contemporary issues and challenges in the field of Child Protection/Youth Justice
