Job summary

Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland is seeking a Youth Connection Worker in Toowoomba, QLD. The role supports young people in the Youth Justice system, including those on orders, conditional bail, and restorative justice referrals.

The role involves needs assessments, development of tailored support plans, advocacy, and coordination with partner agencies. Some out-of-hours duties may apply, with flexible hours negotiated with the Line Manager.

Qualifications

• Ability to work in flexible hours (8:00 am–8:00 pm) with on-call availability.

Responsibilities

• Manage several young people at any one time.
• Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and initial and ongoing risk assessments.
• Develop and implement support plans to strengthen individual capacity.
• Coordinate integrated responses and work with other agencies to improve local services.
• Facilitate referrals to access specialist services (education, counselling, etc.).
• Support inter-agency case reviews and advocate for the young person.
• Provide practical assistance, such as transport, as required.

Salary: $92k per annum + NFP Salary Packaging ($15,900 per FBT in General Living Expenses; $2,650 per FBT in Meal Entertainment) + 12% Super

About the Role

This roles engages with and supports young people in the Youth Justice system, particularly young people who are at risk of reoffending and are on Youth Justice orders, conditional bail and including restorative justice referrals.

Key Responsibilities

• Each Youth Connection Worker will manage several young people at any one time.
• Comprehensive needs and strengths assessment to be undertaken with each young person;
• Initial and ongoing risk assessments;
• Development of a support plan with the young person which aims to strengthen their support structures assisting them to build their individual capacity;
• Coordinating the integrated response and working with other agencies to enhance local service delivery;
• Facilitating supported referrals to access specialist services (for example interventions for school non-attendance, drug and alcohol counselling, and counselling for specific behaviours);
• Facilitating inter-agency case review;
• Providing advocacy for the young person; and
• Providing practical assistance, such as transport, as necessary.

This is a role that at times involves additional work outside of office hours to fulfil the duties of the position”. (Flexible working hours may be negotiated with the Line Manager).

About You

Desirable

• Tertiary qualifications in the Human Services field with at least 12 months of experience working directly with young people; or demonstrated skills and experience working with young people which is deemed acceptable by the Strategic Lead – Programs and Community.

Essential:

• Ability to work in a flexible working arrangements between the hours of 8.00 am and 8.00 pm with some rostered on-call availability on weekdays until 8.00 pm as required.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining safe working environments and personal/professional growth through supervision of self, including a commitment to an appropriate level of self-care.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of Employment Equity, Ethical Conduct and Work Health & Safety.
• Demonstrated high-level communication skills both verbal and written, with an emphasis on effective interpersonal skills negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated ability to proactively support the Values, Principles and Purposes of LDDSQWL.
• Current Queensland “C” class driver's licence.
