Job summary

Mallee Timber & Hardware in Mildura seeks a motivated Yard Hand/Forklift Operator to join our team. The role focuses on safe forklift operation, yard organisation, and handling timber and hardware across a busy retail yard.

You will support customers, prepare orders for collection or delivery, and help maintain a clean, safe working environment. Monday to Friday on-site with a collaborative team spirit.

Qualifications

• Current and valid forklift licence – mandatory.
• Experience operating a forklift safely and efficiently.
• Strong safety mindset and ability to work in a busy yard.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Physically fit with ability to lift heavy loads.

Responsibilities

• Safely operating a forklift to load, unload, move and store stock.

ABOUT MALLEE TIMBER HARDWARE

Mallee Timber & Hardware are locally owned and operated hardware stores that have been servicing the Mildura region since 1985 and through local demand, resulted in launching a new store in Swan Hill in 2025. We have a trusted history of supplying timber, hardware, tools,plasterand other hardware supplies to our targeted customer base of builders and trades, as well general retail customers. We also provide detailing and manufacture services for truss and wall frames through our Mildura site.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As aYard Hand/ Forklift Operator, you will play an important role in the day-to-day operation of our yard. You will focus on safely receiving, unloading, moving, storing and preparing timber, hardware and other building products throughout the yard. You will operate a forklift to load and unload deliveries, transfer stock, collect materials for customer orders and load vehicles safely and efficiently. You will help ensure orders a accurately picked, check and ready for collection or deliveries.

Your responsibilities will include:

Safely operating a forklift to load, unload, move and store stock

Pick, pack and dispatch orders while maintaining quality standards

Provide friendly and professional service, assisting customers with enquiries and advise

Loading customers and delivery divers with loading and unloading products

Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any issues

Maintain a clean, tidy and safe yard environment free from hazards

Safely handle timber, hardware and other building materials

Adhere to workplace health and safety procedures and use of PPE correctly

Maintain stock records and assist with stocktakes and inventory control

Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure the yard operates efficiently and customers orders are fulfilled on time

This is a hands-on role where no two days are exactly the same. You will be an important part of keeping our yard running efficiently and ensuring customers receive their orders safely and on time.

Ideally, we are seeking someone who hasdemonstrated;

Current and valid forklift licence – mandatory

Current truck licence – not essential

Previous experience operating a forklift safely and efficiently

Good organisational skills

Afriendly, approachable and customer focused attitude

Experience in timber, hardware or construction industry (Ideal but not essential)

Ability to safely handle timber and hardware products

Physically fit, this is a hands-on role that involves heavy lifting, manual handling, and being on your feet for most of the day.

Willing to undertake a Fit for Work assessment

Experience operating yard machinery effectively and safely

Commitment to fostering a positive safety and wellbeing culture - protecting a culture where people feel valued,engagedand fulfilled

Experience intrade or hardware goodsand exposure to the construction industry highly regarded.A truck licence would be an advantage but is not essential
