Job summary

Steel Fabrication & Construction Erection on the Gold Coast leads a hands-on Production Manager role for the structural steel workshop. You will oversee welding, fabrication and finishing operations in a busy commercial/industrial setting, driving safety, quality and timely delivery.

This senior position requires extensive experience in structural steel fabrication, strong leadership, and a commitment to meeting project specifications and schedules.

Qualifications

• 15+ years’ experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Proven leadership of a steel fabrication workshop.
• Welding Supervisor certification.
• Certificate in Engineering, Fabrication or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of welding, fabrication and structural steel standards.
• Production planning and people management experience.
• Experience with QA, safety and compliance audits.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily structural steel fabrication and welding operations
• Supervise boilermakers, welders, fabricators and workshop personnel
• Plan workloads, labour requirements and production schedules
• Monitor productivity, workflow, deadlines and project priorities
• Maintain welding quality, documentation and fabrication standards
• Implement management and administrative processes
• Conduct compliance audits and maintain accurate records
• Ensure WHS, QA and company procedures are followed
• Coordinate materials, equipment, subcontractors and deliveries
• Liaise with project managers, drafting, site and senior management
• Identify production issues and implement practical improvements

About the company

Join an established structural steel fabrication business delivering quality fabricated steel for commercial and industrial projects. With a strong pipeline of work, the business is seeking an experienced Production Manager or Workshop Manager to lead its Gold Coast workshop operations.

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the day-to-day performance of the fabrication workshop. You will manage workshop personnel, production schedules, quality, safety and compliance while ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to specification.

Ideal skills and experience:

• Sound knowledge of welding, fabrication and structural steel standards
• Strong production planning and people-management capabilities
• Experience management systems, admin and compliance auditing
• Strong understanding of workplace health, safety and quality assurance
• Interpret workshop drawings and fabrication documentation
