Job summary

Synergie Group is seeking a practical and motivated Workshop Supervisor to support planning, coordination and day-to-day operation of our high-volume structural steel fabrication workshop in Australia.

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will lead teams across processing, fabrication, welding, quality, painting and dispatch, ensure safety, quality, on-time delivery and cost control while mentoring supervisors.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified in Boilermaking, Fabrication or Welding with experience in structural steel.
• Experience coordinating in a high-volume workshop.
• Understanding of AS/NZS 5131, ISO 3834 and related standards.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate production across processing, fabrication, welding, quality, painting and dispatch.
• Support weekly production planning, scheduling and resource allocation.
• Monitor fabrication progress against project programs and delivery commitments.
• Lead and mentor workshop supervisors; provide guidance and escalation when needed.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance, equipment servicing and calibration.
• Participate in audits, risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

We are seeking a practical and motivated Workshop Supervisor to support the planning, coordination and day-to-day operation of our high-volume structural steel fabrication workshop.

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will help coordinate production across processing, fabrication, welding, quality, painting and dispatch. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced fabrication professional ready to take the next step into workshop management.

The Role

Working closely with supervisors, project managers and production teams, you will help ensure fabrication packages are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule and to the required quality standards.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting welding coordination, inspection, traceability and quality-control activities.
• Supporting weekly production planning, scheduling and resource allocation.
• Monitoring fabrication progress against project programs and delivery commitments.
• Communicating production priorities, deadlines and targets to workshop supervisors.
• Coordinating workflow between processing, fabrication, welding, NDT, painting and dispatch.
• Identifying production bottlenecks and implementing practical corrective actions.
• Monitoring labour utilisation, productivity, overtime and workshop operating costs.
• Working with Project Managers to provide progress updates and develop recovery plans where required.
• Coordinating preventative maintenance, equipment servicing, testing, certification and calibration.
• Supporting stores, inventory control, supplier performance and subcontracted services.
• Participating in audits, incident investigations, risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to supervisors and workshop personnel.
• Acting as delegate for the Senior Fabrication Manager when required.

About You

You are an organised and safety-focused fabrication professional with strong technical knowledge and the ability to coordinate people, priorities and resources in a fast-paced workshop.

To be successful, you will have:

• A trade qualification in Boilermaking, Fabrication, Welding or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in a structural steel fabrication environment.
• Experience working within ASINZS 5131 Construction Category CC3 or CC4.
• A strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, welding and workshop operations.
• Sound knowledge of ASINZS 5131, ASINZS 1554 and ISO 3834 requirements. The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and fabrication documentation.
• Strong planning, organisational and time-management skills.
• Effective leadership, communication and problem-solving capabilities.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and respond calmly to urgent production issues.
• A strong commitment to workplace health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Proficiency with computer systems, including experience using ERP or MRP software.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The following would be advantageous:

• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, or an equivalent qualification.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
• Dogging or rigging qualifications.
• Experience coordinating equipment maintenance, calibration and compliance programs.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 , ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
