About the role:

Our client is a dedicated natural resource management and environmental markets consultancy providing research and project management services to the agricultural, forestry and environment sectors. They are looking for an experienced WHS Manager, reporting into the Chief Operating Officer.

This is a key position responsible for managing our client's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS). You will work in close partnership with leaders, managers and staff to ensure that our systems are effective, compliant, and consistently applied. You will drive continuous improvement in WHS practices, support the implementation of risk controls, and promote a proactive and positive safety culture across all areas of the organisation.

Incident Management will be a central focus of this role. You will bring a comprehensive, end-to-end WHS skill set, enabling you to manage any workplace incident with confidence. As the sole person in this position, you’ll take a highly hands-on approach, while also developing and refining incident management processes to drive effective responses and continuous safety improvements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the WHSMS to ensure alignment with WHS legislation, regulations, and accreditation requirements
  • Coordinate the development and execution of WHS action plans and improvement initiatives
  • Conduct WHS inspections and audits across office and field-based operations
  • Provide expert guidance on risk identification, assessment and mitigation
  • Analyse incident data and risk trends to inform strategic decision-making
  • Lead incident investigations and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Report on WHS performance metrics to the Executive Leadership Team and relevant stakeholders
  • Manage and enhance injury and illness management procedures
  • Stay up to date with legislative and regulatory changes, and ensure internal processes reflect current best practice
  • Identify WHS training needs, and assist in the design and delivery of targeted training programs
  • Ensure the company meets its obligations under WHS legislation as a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU)
  • Support effective consultation with workers and Health and Safety Representatives
  • Represent the company at WHS forums and events to remain connected with industry developments

About You:

  • You are an experienced WHS professional with a strong understanding of safety systems, compliance and risk.
  • You take a collaborative and solutions-focused approach, and are comfortable working across varied operational contexts.
  • You bring a balance of strategic thinking and practical know-how, and you are passionate about supporting people and building a strong safety culture.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Qualifications in Work Health and Safety (Diploma or higher preferred)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in WHS roles, ideally in remote, environmental, agricultural or construction-related settings
  • In-depth understanding of WHS legislation and PCBU responsibilities
  • Proven experience in conducting audits, incident investigations and WHS reporting
  • Ability to influence, coach and partner with leaders and team members at all levels
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience developing, implementing and improving WHS systems, policies and procedures
  • (Desirable) Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and experience delivering WHS training
