Qualifications

• Current 1st or 2nd Class Sheet Metal Worker certification or equivalent experience/qualification.
• Proven welding experience with MIG and TIG processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience with sheet metal fabrication techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding on sheet metal components and assemblies using MIG/TIG techniques.
• Read and interpret drawings to ensure fabrication accuracy.
• Operate and maintain CNC Press Brake and Laser equipment; run welding gear.
• Inspect welds and sheet metal work for quality and spec conformance.
• Cut, bend, form and assemble sheet metal parts to design specs.
• Maintain equipment and report issues; follow safety policies.
• Collaborate with team to meet project deadlines and drive quality.

Fire Doors Plus Commercial Doors Pty Ltd is seeking experienced Welders & 1st / 2nd Class Sheet Metal Workers to join our growing team in Pomona, Queensland. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to work on high-quality commercial door and fire door manufacturing projects. You will be instrumental in producing precision-engineered products that meet strict industry standards and safety requirements. This role is based on-site at our Pomona facility, where you will contribute directly to our manufacturing excellence and operational success.

Key responsibilities

• Performing welding operations on various sheet metal components and assemblies utilising appropriate welding techniques and equipment
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy in all fabrication work
• Operating, maintaining CNC Press Brake and Laser machinery as well as welding equipment, including MIG, TIG welding apparatus, ensuring all tools are in optimal working condition
• Inspecting finished welds and sheet metal work to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications
• Cutting, bending and forming sheet metal materials according to design specifications and dimensional requirements
• Assembling fabricated components into complete units, ensuring proper alignment and fit
• Performing preventative maintenance on welding equipment and reporting any issues promptly
• Working safely in accordance with workplace health and safety regulations and company policies
• Collaborating with team members and supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met
• Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product quality

What we're looking for

• Current 1st or 2nd Class Sheet Metal Worker certification or equivalent experience /qualification
• Proven welding experience with proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG)
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
• Experience working with sheet metal materials and fabrication techniques
• Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
• Valid driver's licence (preferred)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
• Commitment to workplace health and safety practices
• Problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
• Previous experience in the manufacturing of commercial doors and frames would be advantageous
