Job summary

The Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking a Water & Wastewater Operator to monitor and operate treatment plants, pumping stations and related infrastructure across the southern region. This hands-on role includes after-hours on-call duties and ensuring compliance with environmental and operational standards.

You will support maintenance activities, coordinate sampling, and contribute to safety and team culture within the Water Operations Branch.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Water and/or Wastewater Operations or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Relevant industry experience operating treatment plants and associated infrastructure.
• Experience with automated operational systems and process control.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Operating and monitoring water and wastewater treatment infrastructure.
• Maintaining compliance with statutory and environmental requirements.
• Supporting Drinking Water Quality Management Plans and quality systems.
• Coordinating sampling and plant monitoring activities.
• Assisting with maintenance coordination and contractor supervision.
• Responding to SCADA alarms and after-hours operational issues.
• Working safely and contributing to a strong team culture.
