Job summary

Banana Shire Council is seeking a hands-on Water Treatment Operator to operate and maintain treatment plants in accordance with policies and legislative requirements. You will monitor parameters, collect samples, and respond to alarms to ensure continuous supply of safe treated water and wastewater.

Key duties include supervising assistants, maintaining records (SWIMs), using SCADA/Telemetry, stocking consumables, and contributing to safety and disaster management programs.

Qualifications

• Water treatment and wastewater operational experience.
• Knowledge of relevant treatment operation legislation.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve process issues.
• Proficiency in MS Office and SCADA/Telemetry systems.
• Strong oral and written communication and customer service skills.
• Willingness to work as part of a team with WHS focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and support to assistant operators and trainees.
• Operate, maintain and repair water supply and sewerage infrastructure.
• Monitor treatment process parameters and chemical dosing.
• Collect samples and undertake routine analysis.
• Respond promptly to operational changes to ensure supply and quality.
• Maintain log sheets, asset records and monthly reports.
• Utilise SCADA/Telemetry to monitor parameters and alarms.
• Assist in supervising contractors and other employees.
• Contribute to safety, disaster management, and continuous improvement.
