Job summary

Burke Shire Council is seeking a dedicated Water Operator to join the Utilities team in Burketown. The role involves hands-on operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, monitoring performance, sampling, and ensuring compliance with health and environmental standards.

You will work in a remote community, contributing to continuous improvement, fault-finding, and corrective actions, with a negotiable start salary based on qualifications and tickets held.

Qualifications

• Current open (manual) driver's licence.
• Safety-first attitude with strong communication and numeracy skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated experience with SCADA systems or similar monitoring tools (preferred).
• Willingness to complete a Cert III in Water Operations (if not already held).

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant performance, record and report test results.
• Collect water and wastewater samples for analysis.
• Operate treatment plant equipment and apply safe chemical handling.
• Support compliance with health, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying issues and assisting with fault-finding and corrective actions.
