Job summary

Bathurst Regional Council is seeking a strategic leader to provide overall direction for water and sewer services, ensuring safe and sustainable delivery to the community. The role covers operation, maintenance, renewal and future development of the Water Filtration Plant, Wastewater Treatment Works, reticulation, and trade waste functions.

You will ensure compliance with NSW health and EPA regulations, drive continuous improvement, and oversee capital projects and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent acceptable for professional membership.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in Local Government water/sewer.
  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment principles.
  • Experience overseeing dam operation and NSW dam safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic and operational delivery of water and sewer services.
  • Oversee operation, maintenance, renewal and future development of water infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and guidelines; drive service improvements.
  • Prepare reports for regulatory bodies.

Provide strategic and operational leadership, for Bathurst Regional Council's water and sewer services to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of essential services to the community.

The role oversees the operation, maintenance, renewal and future development of Council's water and sewer infrastructure, including the Water Filtration Plant, Wastewater Treatment Works, reticulation, and trade waste functions.

The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, government guidelines, and Council policies, while driving continuous improvement in service delivery, asset management, infrastructure planning, and operational performance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualification acceptable for Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
  • Relevant experience in the Local Government and water/sewer industry (minimum 4 years)
  • Sound technical knowledge of water and sewer design and operation principles.
  • Knowledge and experience in the strategic oversight of dam operation, compliance with the NSW dam safety requirements and safety procedures
  • Sound knowledge in the principles of water treatment and wastewater treatment with understanding of the role of the NSW Health Department and NSW EPA in Local Government regulation.
  • Sound working knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the management and motivation of professional staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the completion of capital projects.
  • Experience in completing reports and returns for regulatory bodies.
  • Critical and lateral thinking skills

Salary:$2,106.45 to $2,213.07 per week + 12% superannuation

Position Status:Permanent – Full-time

Hours of work: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:45 pm - 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
