Job summary

Port Macquarie Hastings Council is seeking a Reticulation Network Engineer to support water and wastewater reticulation networks on-site in Port Macquarie. You will lead planning, design, approvals, and delivery under PMHC’s framework, collaborating with planning and project teams to optimise operations.

The role demands strong project management, safety leadership, and hands-on technical expertise in compliance and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in water supply and wastewater industry, ideally in an operational environment.
  • Proven skills in project planning, management, and delivery.
  • Experience in process optimisation and troubleshooting within water and sewer operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly with spreadsheets, databases, and SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

  • Providing engineering support for maintenance, renewal, and compliance of water and sewer reticulation assets.
  • Preparing operational and safety procedures, including shutdown protocols, risk assessments, and construction documentation.
  • Managing licensing, regulatory reporting, and environmental impact controls in line with legislation.
  • Leading planning, design, approvals, delivery and capitalisation of Utilities Operations projects following PMHC’s Project Management Framework.
  • Collaborating with Planning, Design, and Project Delivery teams to review designs and analyse operational data.
  • Leading procurement activities for works and services supporting treatment plants and headworks assets.
  • Identifying and implementing process optimisations and innovations to improve system performance.
  • Promoting safe work practices through inspections, inductions, and risk management initiatives.
  • Providing operational support across Community Utilities areas and participating in the after-hours on-call roster.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated ReticulationNetwork Engineer to join our Community Utilities Division, supportingthe operation, maintenance, and renewal of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’swater and wastewater reticulation networks. This is a fantastic opportunity foran engineering professional with a passion for infrastructure and communityservice to contribute technical expertise and lead projects that ensure thesafe, reliable delivery of essential utilities.


About the Role

Reporting to the Reticulation Networks Manager, you willprovide engineering support to the Community Utilities Operations team by:



  • Providingengineering support and technical advice for the maintenance, renewal, andcompliance of water and sewer reticulation assets.

  • Preparingoperational and safety procedures, including shutdown protocols, riskassessments, and construction documentation.

  • Managinglicensing, regulatory reporting, and environmental impact controls in linewith relevant legislation.

  • Leadingplanning, design, relevant approval applications, delivery, andcapitalisation of Utilities Operations projects following PMHC’s ProjectManagement Framework.

About You

To be successful in this position:



  • ABachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Demonstratedexperience in the water supply and wastewater industry, ideally within anoperational environment.

  • Provenskills in project planning, management, and delivery.

  • Experiencein process optimisation and troubleshooting within water and seweroperations.

  • Well-developedverbal and written communication skills, including report writing.

  • Advancedcomputer skills, particularly with spreadsheets, databases, and SCADAsystems.

  • Acollaborative approach, strong commitment to safety and compliance, andmotivation to enhance community infrastructure through innovation andtechnical excellence.


Remuneration and Benefits

Employment type: Permanent, full-time role (35 hours perweek plus flex time)


Salary: Starting from $101,015.87 to $113,067.81 per yeardepending on skills and experience plus 12% super and allowances


This role also qualifies for a leaseback vehicle orallowance
