Job summary

The New Acland Coal Mine, owned by New Hope Group, seeks a Senior Environmental Advisor (Water) on a permanent full-time basis to lead water management expertise and compliance.

Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, you will develop water management plans, monitor water quality, liaise with regulators, and supervise contractors while engaging with the community. Based in the Darling Downs region, this role offers career growth and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology or equivalent.
• Postgraduate studies or professional certifications in water resource management (desirable).
• Expert knowledge of surface water and groundwater systems incl. hydrology and modelling.
• Strong understanding of QLD environmental legislation for mining (EP Act, Water Act, EAs).
• Experience in risk management, stakeholder engagement, and audits.
• Minimum 3 years in environmental advisory, preferably open cut coal with water focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead EMS development with emphasis on water management and compliance.
• Oversee water quality, use, licences, approvals, and procedures.
• Coordinate surface water, groundwater and discharge monitoring.
• Develop site water plans: balance modelling, dewatering, groundwater impact assessments.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies and stakeholders on water matters.
• Supervise environmental contractors to ensure compliant delivery.
• Engage with community liaison to manage complaints and responses.
