Job summary

New Acland Coal Mine, owned by New Hope Group, seeks a Senior Environmental Advisor (Water) for a permanent full-time role 45 minutes from Toowoomba. You will lead water management efforts, ensure regulatory compliance and coordinate monitoring across surface water and groundwater streams.

Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the role requires strong stakeholder engagement, risk management and site‑specific water plan development in a coal mining context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Environmental Science or Engineering or Hydrogeology.
• Postgraduate studies in water resource management desirable.
• Expert knowledge of surface water and groundwater systems including modelling and monitoring.
• Strong understanding of Queensland environmental legislation for mining (EP Act, Water Act, EAs).
• Minimum 3 years' environmental advisory experience, preferably in open-cut coal mining with water focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead EMS development focused on water management.
• Oversee water quality and use documentation, licences, approvals, policies and procedures.
• Coordinate water-related environmental monitoring activities (surface water, groundwater, discharge).
• Develop and implement site water management plans, including water balance modelling and dewatering strategies.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies and stakeholders on surface and groundwater matters.
• Manage environmental contractors to ensure compliant delivery of operations.
• Engage with Community liaison officers to handle complaints and responses.
