Job summary

Burwood Council invites a strategic leader to become Manager Waste Services, driving sustainability, financial viability and operational excellence in council waste programs. You will oversee a large fleet, manage high-value contracts and lead education initiatives to boost resource recovery and zero-waste outcomes.

The role demands strong stakeholder engagement, policy compliance and cross‑functional leadership to advance the Burwood Community Strategic Plan 2036.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in waste management or a related discipline.
• Current NSW or Australian Class C Driver Licence.
• Extensive experience leading complex operational services including waste, cleansing, fleet or related functions.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary waste management practices across residential, commercial and public place waste services.
• Proven experience leading, developing and managing high-performing teams and driving change.

Responsibilities

• Lead the long-term sustainability, financial viability and operational excellence of Council's waste services.
• Oversee a diverse heavy vehicle and plant fleet.
• Direct community waste education programs to improve resource recovery and zero-waste outcomes.
• Drive asset lifecycle management, regulatory compliance and governance.
• Engage with stakeholders to support service transformation and strategic priorities.
