Job summary

Waverley Council in Bondi Junction, NSW seeks a dedicated project lead to plan and implement strategic waste initiatives. You will drive efficiency in waste operations, improve customer satisfaction, and help achieve resource recovery targets across kerbside services.

The role involves coordinating consultants, developing budgets, and reporting on outcomes while aligning with the council's waste strategy. Applicants should have tertiary qualifications and strong stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. project management or environmental science).
• Understanding of environmental and waste management issues relevant to local government.
• Strong analytical and data management skills.
• Excellent organisational ability and attention to detail.
• Experience developing projects from concept to implementation and evaluating outcomes.
• Grant writing and/or technical report writing experience.
• Excellent communication skills including ability to convey insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative attitude with ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
• Commitment to EEO principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and evaluate initiatives aimed at improving Council’s kerbside services.
• Deliver and monitor programs for waste avoidance, reuse and recycling.
• Update Council’s policies for resource recovery and waste management ensuring alignment with the waste strategy.
• Prepare waste budgets, reports and submissions.
• Collaborate internally to monitor, analyse and report on Council's performance toward achieving its resource recovery targets.
• Engage and coordinate consultants carrying out waste-related audits, investigations as well as service and financial modelling.
• Coordinate and assist in the development of submissions seeking external grant funding, partnerships with regional groups and awards that recognize excellence in Waverley.
• Undertake additional duties as directed by the Manager Waste Operations & Engagement and Executive Manager Waste, Cleansing & Fleet which are consistent with the skills and competencies related to this role.
