Job summary

Glenorchy City Council is seeking a Waste Operations and Plant Operator to support safe, efficient waste services in our community. You may operate litter collection vehicles, landfill plant, collect waste and litter, support resource recovery and maintain kerbside bins.

Responsibilities include operating equipment safely, transporting waste, assisting customers, sorting recyclables and keeping precise records.

Qualifications

• Experience in operating machinery and equipment relevant to waste operations.
• Ability to perform physical duties and manual handling safely.
• Good time management, initiative and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal communication and customer service abilities.
• Sound understanding of work health and safety requirements for heavy plant and outdoor work.
• Ability to work cooperatively across multiple waste operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant, machinery, vehicles safely in waste operations.
• Collect and transport waste from Council facilities and public spaces.
• Support landfill and resource recovery operations.
• Assist customers and direct traffic within operational areas.
• Sort and manage reusable and recyclable materials.
• Deliver, repair and maintain kerbside bins.
• Maintain accurate operational records.
• Contribute to a safe, clean and well-organised workplace.
