Job summary

Sodexo Ltd is recruiting a Ward Catering Assistant for Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital. You will help prepare and serve nutritious meals, support patient wellbeing, and maintain strict cleanliness in kitchens and dining areas. A positive, patient-focused approach and good teamwork are essential.

The role offers fixed on-site hours, with a permanent contract and benefits. Training in food safety and flexibility to cover shifts are part of the package.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients with dignity and care.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals, including special diets.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and infection prevention standards.
• Complete temperature checks and accurate quality records.
• Keep ward kitchens and dining areas clean and stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and safe food transport.
• Work as part of a team and assist with other catering duties.

Job Introduction

This job puts good food on the table.

As a Ward Catering Assistant with Sodexo at Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital, you’ll play an important part in preparing and serving nutritious, comforting meals that support patient recovery and wellbeing. You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe environment in the kitchen and dining areas. With a cheerful attitude and great customer service, your presence can make a real difference in someone’s day. What you’ll do:

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients, ensuring dignity, care and excellent customer service.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals accurately, including special dietary requirements.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection prevention in line with hospital and company policies.
• Complete food temperature checks, quality records and other required documentation accurately.
• Keep ward kitchens, catering equipment and work areas clean, safe and well stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and the safe transportation of food trolleys.
• Work as part of a team, following instructions and helping with other catering duties as required

What you bring:

• Previous experience in a similar role or willingness to learn
• A positive, reliable and caring approach, with a genuine desire to provide excellent service to patients.
• Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and work efficiently.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
• Good timekeeping, reliability and a flexible approach to supporting the team.
• A willingness to learn and complete required training, including maintaining mandatory standards.
• A Food Safety Level 2 certificate (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this.
