Job summary

NSW Health in Sydney seeks a Ward and Hand Physiotherapist Level 1/2 to deliver high-quality physiotherapy and hand therapy across medical inpatient wards and the Hand Therapy Unit. You will manage a diverse caseload with autonomy, contributing to education, referrals, and clinical documentation.

The role supports ward rounds, research and quality improvement initiatives, with involvement in staff and student development within Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital networks.

Qualifications

• Current physiotherapy registration with AHPRA.
• Post-graduate hospital experience in respiratory and orthopaedic physiotherapy.
• 2+ years post-graduate general public hospital experience.
• Some hand therapy experience with management of traumatic hand injuries.

Responsibilities

• Provide physiotherapy and hand therapy across wards and Hand Therapy Unit.
• Manage caseload with autonomy; perform assessments, treatment and documentation.
• Participate in ward rounds, clinical meetings, education, research and quality improvement.
• Support orientation and development of physiotherapy staff and students.

The Role

The Ward and Hand Physiotherapist Level 1/2 provides high-quality physiotherapy and hand therapy services across medical inpatient wards and the Hand Therapy Unit, supporting both inpatient and outpatient caseloads. The role is responsible for comprehensive assessment, treatment, education, referrals, handover and clinical documentation, while managing caseloads with a high level of autonomy, organisation and prioritisation. The position actively participates in ward rounds, clinical meetings, education, research and quality improvement initiatives, contributes to the orientation and development of physiotherapy staff and students, and promotes best practice in accordance with workplace health and safety, clinical and organisational standards. The role also supports ongoing professional development and contributes to service improvement across Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital and SESLHD.

Selection Criteria

• Meets relevant tertiary qualification standards i.e. Current registration with Physiotherapy Broad Registration within AHPRA.
• Post-graduate general public hospital experience including respiratory and orthopaedic physiotherapy . Abitlity to participate in the weekend on-call roster.
• More than two years post-graduate general public hospital experience including respiratory and orthopaedic physiotherapy
• Some experience in Hand Therapy. This should include the therapeutic management of traumatic hand injuries
• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise a range of written and verbal communication skills
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Demonstrated ability in audit or other clinical improvement activities
