Job summary

Westzone Tiling Pty Ltd in Melbourne, VIC, is seeking an experienced Wall and Floor Tiler for full-time employment. You will measure,-cut and install tiles across internal and external surfaces, ensuring accurate layouts, strong finishes and waterproofing in wet areas.

Responsibilities

• Examine plans and mark layouts for tiling.
• Prepare walls/ Floors, remove old materials, level surfaces.
• Select tiles, adhesives, grouts and materials per project.
• Cut and shape tiles with tile-cutting tools.
• Install tiles on walls and floors in various areas.
• Ensure proper alignment, spacing and pattern as specified.
• Apply waterproofing to wet areas and grout joints.
• Sealants and finishes where required.
• Inspect tiling work and rectify defects.
• Maintain tools and ensure site safety.

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced and skilled Wall and Floor Tiler to join our team on a full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

• Examining building plans, drawings and specifications, and measuring and marking surfaces to determine the layout and positioning of tiles.
• Preparing wall and floor surfaces for tiling by removing existing tiles, grout and adhesive, filling holes and cracks, levelling surfaces and ensuring areas are clean and ready for installation.
• Selecting and preparing appropriate tiles, adhesives, grouts and other materials according to project requirements.
• Measuring, cutting and shaping ceramic, porcelain, clay, marble, slate, glass and other tiles using appropriate tile-cutting tools and equipment.
• Spreading adhesive onto prepared wall and floor surfaces and setting tiles securely into position.
• Installing tiles on internal and external walls and floors, including bathrooms, kitchens, living areas, commercial premises, outdoor areas and swimming pool surrounds.
• Cutting tiles accurately to fit around corners, edges, pipes, drains, fixtures, fittings and other obstacles.
• Ensuring tiles are correctly aligned, evenly spaced and positioned according to the required pattern, design and specifications.
• Applying waterproofing systems to appropriate wet areas before tile installation.
• Grouting tiled surfaces, filling joints and removing excess grout to achieve a clean and professional finish.
• Applying sealants and finishing materials where required to protect tiled surfaces and joints.
• Laying tiles in decorative patterns and designs, including mosaic-style installations where required.
• Undertaking outdoor paving and other tile-related surface installations as required.
• Inspecting completed tiling work to identify and rectify uneven surfaces, incorrect alignment, gaps, damaged tiles or other defects.
• Maintaining tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
• Following workplace health and safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Working efficiently with other trades and site personnel to ensure tiling projects are completed within required timeframes and to the required standard.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this position, applicants should have:

• Relevant qualification in Wall and Floor Tiling, such as Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling, or equivalent relevant trade qualifications.
• Demonstrated experience working as a Wall and Floor Tiler in residential and/or commercial construction environments.
• Strong practical knowledge of tile installation, surface preparation, adhesive application, cutting, alignment, grouting and finishing.
• Experience working with different types of tiles, including ceramic, porcelain, marble, slate, glass and other commonly used tiling materials.
• Ability to accurately read plans, drawings and measurements and establish tile layouts.
• Proficiency in using tile-cutting tools and other equipment required for professional tile installation.
• Knowledge and practical experience with waterproofing systems and wet-area preparation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other trades and site personnel.
• Good time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to complete work within project deadlines.
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Physical ability to undertake manual work, including lifting and handling tiles, materials and equipment and working in various positions on construction sites.
