Job summary

The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW is seeking a Vinnies Van Case Worker to provide professional case management and holistic support to people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in NSW. The role collaborates with volunteers to empower clients and connect them with services.

Applicants should have a Minimum TAFE Certificate IV or be studying welfare, with experience helping marginalised people, strong communication, and the ability to work independently or in a team.

Qualifications

• Minimum TAFE Certificate IV or currently undertaking tertiary study in welfare or related field.
• Experience providing support to marginalised and vulnerable people, including homeless persons.
• Knowledge of homelessness issues including family breakdown, mental illness, addictions.
• Awareness of local community support services for homeless clients and ability to build relationships with providers.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sound computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Awareness of Work Health and Safety legislation and commitment to safe practices.
• Ability to use sound judgement in crisis and emergencies.
• NSW driver licence.

• Engage with people sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.
• Conduct client intake, assessment and case planning.
• Provide information, advocacy, crisis intervention and ongoing support.
• Connect clients with external services, education and life skills programs.
• Provide additional support to people accessing Vinnies Van services.
• Develop collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and service providers.
• Support clients in a non-judgemental, inclusive and confidential manner.
• Assist clients to understand and follow service rules and procedures.
• Maintain accurate client records, case notes, statistics and data.

Your Role

The Vinnies Van Case Worker provides professional case management and holistic support to people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, social isolation and other complex needs. The role works collaboratively with Vinnies Van volunteers, strengthening their capacity to provide informed, compassionate and effective support to people accessing the service.

Profile description

About You

• Minimum TAFE Certificate IV or currently undertaking tertiary study, in welfare or related field.
• Previous experience providing support to marginalised and vulnerable people support to homeless persons.
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues relating to homelessness including but not limited to family breakdown, mental illness, drug, alcohol and gambling addictions.
• Demonstrated awareness of appropriate local community support services for homeless clients, including government agencies and NGO's, and the capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with such service providers.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sound computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Awareness and understanding of the Work Health and Safety legislation and a commitment to promoting safe work practices.
• Ability to use sound judgement and act appropriately in crisis and emergency situations.
• NSW driver licence.
