We are searching for enthusiastic and motivated Victim Liaison Officer to join the Mental Health Review Tribunal. This new position will play a critical role in providing information to victims of forensic patients and their representatives, and ensuring the Tribunal meets its legislative obligations under victim rights legislation.
The position is responsible for clear communication of information to victims and their representatives and support people, in addition to development of policies, procedures and stakeholder relationships that enhance victim participation and engagement with Tribunal processes. Engagement with Victims Services with the Department of Community and Justice (DCJ), who have statutory responsibility for supporting victims of forensic patients in tribunal reviews, is an important part of the role.
As the Victim Liaison Officer, you will work with Victims Services within DCJ, victims, Tribunal Members, registry staff, health professionals and external agencies to ensure victims are informed, supported and able to participate effectively in the Tribunal process. You will provide important input in development of victim-related policy and operational issues under the guidance of the Tribunal President. You will respond to enquiries and contribute to improving the experience of victims participating in Tribunal reviews.
The role involves researching, developing and maintaining policies, guidelines, procedures and information resources relating to victims of forensic patients. You will prepare reports, submissions, briefings and correspondence for the Tribunal President and full-time Deputy Presidents, and Registrar, and contribute to responses to ministerial and parliamentary requests under direction of the Tribunal leadership. You will support capability-building initiatives across the organisation.
Working in a specialised and sensitive environment, you will engage with complex matters involving mental health, forensic patients and victims of crime. Success in the role requires strong judgement, empathy, resilience and the ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including Victims Services, the Department of Communities and Justice, public health organisations and community representatives.
