Job summary

CHU Assess is seeking an experienced Underwriting Surveyor to conduct detailed risk surveys on strata buildings nationwide. You’ll assess building condition, construction methods, materials, and compliance risks to support accurate underwriting decisions.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, WHS practices and experience in insurance risk. You will work with loss adjusters, consultants and teams across CHU, with growth opportunities as the organisation evolves.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in the insurance industry, ideally in underwriting/risk surveys.
• Ability to assess complex risks and understand requirements for storage of dangerous goods and fire protection at occupancy level.
• Strong report writing and analytical skills.
• Intermediate computer skills across Microsoft suite and industry programmes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary research, review documentation and claims history to identify key risks.
• Perform building surveys and onsite inspections in line with CHU Assess standards and applicable legislation.
• Prepare concise risk assessment reports summarising findings and recommendations for underwriting.
• Collaborate with builders, engineers, managers, loss adjusters and internal teams to support risk mitigation.
• Provide responsive client support and stay updated on industry regulations.
