Allianz Australia is seeking an Underwriting Manager for Personal Injury & Commercial across multiple locations. The role leads the SME Underwriting team, shapes systems and processes, and partners with brokers to deliver market-leading underwriting and service standards.

The role requires strong leadership, data-driven decision making, and a focus on renewal retention, with a collaborative approach to drive growth and profitability for SME products and the broader Commercial team.

About The Role

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the underwriting team to provide underwriting and service standards to internal and external customers, develop and implement required operational action plans to deliver quality service standards, whilst ensuring adherence to company risk, underwriting, and compliance standards.

• Managing the SME Underwriting team and contributing to the design of new systems, processes, and procedures with a view of implementing market-leading underwriting and service
• Leading the relationship with our broker partners and being a key point of contact, market-facing where appropriate.
• Championing the relationship between team members and customers (internal and external) and ensuring better customer outcomes and a consistent Commercial mindset.
• Collaborating with other Underwriting Managers to ensure the achievement of key growth and profitability targets, taking ownership of delivering financial and operational targets for SME products and the wider Commercial team
• Managing workflow processes across the Underwriting team to ensure market-leading customer service, improving and maintaining positive net promoter score results, and driving a customer-centric culture
• Facilitating an inclusive and collaborative environment with all Commercial initiatives and programs to build on Allianz People Attributes and ensuring diverse thinking and the best outcomes
• Ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of work across a team of Underwriters, being mindful of the development and growth needs for each team member
• Ensuring a strong focus on renewal retention and an adaptable, responsive approach to new business
• Monitoring productivity and service standards reports across renewals, new business, endorsements, and loss control key metrics, and implementing actions to achieve business objectives

About You

• Holds tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, professional certifications in project management or continuous improvement a preference
• Extensive leadership experience navigating complex, matrixed environments within the general insurance sector
• Proven track record of empowering people, enhancing team performance, and building talent pipelines
• Displays critical thinking capabilities to interpret complex data, recognise emerging trends, and generate strategic solutions
• Plans, prioritises, and manages competing resource demands while maintaining clear verbal and written communication
• A passion for leveraging emerging technologies to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape
