Job summary

Biro Strategy is partnering with regional NSW mining operations to place experienced Diesel Fitters, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics and Agricultural Mechanics in residential, non-FIFO roles.

These positions offer rosters that keep you at home in a regional town, with even-time options. Training and development are available, and visa sponsorship may be considered for the right candidates.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or Agricultural Mechanic (Certificate III or equivalent). Underground hard rock experience preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled services, inspections and repairs on underground mobile equipment including loaders, haul trucks, jumbos, production drills and integrated tool carriers.
• Diagnose and fault find mechanical, hydraulic and driveline problems; restore equipment to safe working order.
• Complete component change-outs and rebuilds including engines, transmissions, final drives and hydraulic cylinders.
• Respond to breakdowns underground and in the workshop.
• Work with planners and maintenance supervisors to deliver the preventive maintenance program.
• Keep accurate service and repair records and report defects.
• Follow site safety systems, including isolations, permits and pre-start checks.

Job description

Heavy Diesel Fitters, Plant Mechanics and Ag Mechanics wanted for underground hard rock mining in regional NSW. Residential roles, no FIFO. Visa sponsorship available for the right candidates.

The opportunity

Underground hard rock mines run on their mobile fleet. When a loader, truck or drill rig is down, production stops, which is why these operations need fitters who can diagnose fast and fix it right the first time.

These are residential roles. You live in a regional town, work your roster and go home at the end of each shift, instead of flying in and out. Rosters vary by site and include even-time options such as 7 on, 7 off.

We welcome qualified Diesel Fitters, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics and Agricultural Mechanics, including tradespeople who have not worked underground before and want to make the move into mining.

About you

Certification and experience:

a trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or Agricultural Mechanic (Certificate III or equivalent). Underground hard rock experience is preferred but not essential; experience on Sandvik, Epiroc or Caterpillar underground fleet is highly regarded. Experience from earthmoving, civil, quarry, heavy haulage or agricultural machinery is valued.

Technical skills:

strong diagnostics and fault finding across hydraulics, engines, drivelines and braking systems; able to read schematics and service manuals; comfortable with component change-outs and rebuilds.

Soft skills:

clear communication, good time management, and the ability to work independently or as part of a crew.

Adaptability and learning:

keen to learn new equipment and technology, and always looking for ways to improve reliability and reduce downtime.

Licences and certifications:

a current driver's licence. Mining inductions, working at heights, confined space and first aid are an advantage.
