Job summary

Newmont Australia seeks an Engineer, Backfill to establish and implement Backfill Management Plans at the Tanami mine. The role is based on-site with an 8 on/6 off FIFO roster from Perth, Darwin, Brisbane or Alice Springs.

Accommodation is provided on site, and you will work across Technical Services, Geology, and Mining Operations. You will model paste stability, reticulation design and oversee field execution, with a focus on safety, quality and timely backfill delivery.

Qualifications

Degree in Engineering, Geology, Science or related discipline.
Underground mining experience with site exposure to Geotechnical/Backfill.
Proficient with design packages including Deswik and CAD software.
Experience with FLAC-3D or similar numerical modelling and Pumpsim is highly regarded.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SAP.

Responsibilities

Provide backfill guidance across Technical Services, Geological, Mining Operations, Surface Operations and Maintenance teams.
Support safe and timely backfill design for paste, co-disposal and rockfill stopes.
Model paste stability and hydraulic reticulation design and transfer into executable design packages.
Monitor fill designs, plant trends and lab data to ensure QC and design compliance.
Conduct inspections of backfill infrastructure to verify conformance to standards.
Assist with daily paste/rockfill tracking and weekly mining production scheduling.
Contribute to medium and long-term mine plans with backfill input.
Lead backfill-related projects and manage contractors as required.
Seek continuous improvement in design and data collection and management.
Mentor team members and foster positive relationships.
