Job summary

Polaris Community (Holdsworth School, Burnley) seeks an HLTA to support pupils with complex needs in a safe, caring environment. You will promote wellbeing, assist in lessons, and lead on Reading and Phonics while developing pupil voice and parental links.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
• Previous HLTA experience.
• Experience with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting.
• Willing to take additional responsibility in school areas (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga).
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
• Committed to professional development and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Support wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School.
• Work with education team to support pupils' personal and academic development and remove barriers to learning.
• Promote positive learning behaviour with pupils.
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover; planning supported by teaching staff.
• Deliver an enrichment golden time activity.
• Support in lessons with academic, pastoral, emotional or behavioural needs.
• Respond to immediate concerns and clarify the situation.
• Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions.
• Assist in preparing information for meetings about pupils.
• Be an advocate for the Holdsworth School ethos.
• Lead on Reading and Phonics; review progress.
• Develop the role of Pupil Voice and liaise with SLT about the Pupil Council.
• Develop relationships with parents/carers and participate in transitions and visits.

Role Responsibilities

• To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn
