Job summary

Australia Post in Darwin is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Truck Driver to deliver for local customers. You’ll be the face of our trusted business, driving one of our iconic red trucks and joining a community-focused team.

This permanent full-time role is based at the Darwin Mail Centre in Winnellie, with shifts from 10:00 to 17:51 and allowances including five weeks of annual leave, plus tonnage and electricity allowances. Commitment to safety and customer service is essential.

Qualifications

• HR and forklift licences are required.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment checks including driving history and medical.
• Strong safety culture and customer service mindset.

Responsibilities

• Safely load the truck with cages for delivery.
• Complete daily vehicle safety checks.
• Drive our trucks between centres and customers for deliveries and pick-ups.
• Return to centres to unload parcels.

About the opportunity

Are you motivated by getting behind the wheel of one of our iconic red trucks to deliver for customers? As our Heavy Vehicle Truck Driver, you’ll be the face of our trusted business, at the heart of your community and connecting businesses with their customers, and communities with each other day-in, day-out. You might not be working from home, but you’ll be on the road as a staple of your community, and it doesn’t get better than that!

This role works out of our Darwin Mail Centre based in Winnellie. It's a permanent full time opportunity working from 10am to 5.51pm with allowances attached including 5 weeks annual leave per year. In addition, tonnage and electricity allowances apply.

You’ll be

• Safely loading your truck with cages for delivery.
• Completing your own daily vehicle safety check.
• Driving our modern trucks between our operational centres and customers, for deliveries and pick-ups.
• Returning to our operational centres to unload pick-ups.

About you

You’re a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable personality, who loves autonomy just as much as interacting with others and being a team player. You’re passionate about making a difference in the community.

You’ll also need to

• Hold a relevant HR and Forklift licence.
• Be safety-focused and understand the importance of the chain of responsibility.
• Have a customer-centric mindset and effective communication skills.
• Be fit enough to load and unload parcels of all different shapes, sizes and weights.
• Be prepared to provide a driving history report, undergo a pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screening and national police checks.
