Job summary

UnitingCare Queensland invites applications for a Child Domestic and Family Violence Counsellor in the Port Douglas–Mossman region. You will provide child-centered, trauma-informed counselling to children and young people affected by domestic and family violence, supporting safety, regulation and connection with family and community.

You will deliver developmentally appropriate therapy, create safety plans, and coordinate with schools and services.

Qualifications

• Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
• Eligibility for membership/registration with a professional body.
• Experience counselling children/young people affected by DFV/trauma.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist counselling to children and young people impacted by DFV.
• Perform assessments, risk screening and safety planning.
• Develop and review therapeutic plans for each child/young person.
• Apply play-based and expressive therapies appropriately.
• Support safety, coping, and engagement with family and community.
• Coordinate referrals with schools, health, Child Safety, police and services.
• Maintain accurate client records and case notes.
• Participate in supervision and ongoing professional development.
