Transport Manager – Central Queensland - Heavy Vehicle Operations

VE Group is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to take ownership of our Central Queensland transport operations and lead the continued development of our heavy vehicle transport division.

This is a hands-on management role responsible for the safe, compliant and profitable delivery of transport operations, including driver leadership, transport allocation, scheduling, customer service, operational performance and commercial growth.

You will work closely with our operational, maintenance, project and corporate teams to ensure our fleet and people are effectively utilised while maintaining strong standards across safety, compliance, service and financial performance.

About the role

As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Leading the day‑to‑day performance of VE Group's transport operations.

• Managing and supporting drivers, project teams, clients and operational personnel.

• Planning and coordinating transport schedules, routes, loads and fleet resources.

• Ensuring transport activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with applicable NHVR, heavy vehicle, safety and company requirements.

• Maintaining effective operational procedures for transport allocation, driver management and permit requirements.

• Monitoring fleet and labour utilisation and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and reduce operating costs.

• Reviewing transport revenue, costs, job performance and profitability.

• Working closely with Maintenance to maximise fleet availability and minimise operational disruption.

• Developing strong relationships with existing clients while identifying new transport and haulage opportunities.

• Supporting pricing, negotiations and commercial discussions with customers and suppliers.

• Driving continuous improvement across transport systems, processes and service delivery.

• Conducting regular operational and site engagement with drivers, customers and project teams.

• Supporting the recruitment, development and retention of a capable and accountable transport workforce.

• Ensuring incidents, safety matters and operational issues are addressed promptly and corrective actions are closed out.

About you

We are looking for an experienced transport leader who understands that successful transport operations require the right balance of people, compliance, equipment, customer service and commercial performance.

You will ideally bring:

• Experience managing customer and supplier relationships.

• Demonstrated experience managing heavy vehicle transport, haulage or similar road transport operations.

• Strong knowledge of transport scheduling, allocation and fleet utilisation.

• Sound understanding of NHVR and heavy vehicle compliance requirements.

• Proven experience leading drivers and operational teams.

• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to understand job costing, utilisation, revenue and profitability.

• Strong negotiation, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• High standards of communication, organisation and accountability.

• Current open driver's licence.

Experience with civil construction haulage, bulk haulage or Central Queensland transport operations will be highly regarded.
