Job summary

The Queensland Government seeks a Transition Officer to assist young people in re-engaging with education or training and to secure employment, with the aim of reducing reoffending in the youth justice system. You will work with a team to plan, deliver and refer youth to education, training and employment opportunities.

You will collect and maintain client data, liaise with stakeholders, and contribute to culturally aware practice with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting youth in education, training or employment contexts.
  • Commitment to culturally inclusive practice (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples).
  • Ability to maintain accurate client data and records.

Responsibilities

  • Support young people to participate in education, training and employment programs.
  • Collaborate with the team to refer youth to services.
  • Provide support in education, vocational training, work experience and employment.
  • Maintain accurate data and client records in line with requirements.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate cultural capability and respect for cultural protocols.

Job description

The role of the Transition Officer is to provide assistance and ongoing support to young people to re-engage in education or training and/or secure and sustain employment, with an overarching goal of reducing reoffending by young people in the youth justice system.

The Youth Worker Key Responsibilities

As Transitions Officer, you will specifically:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Assist in preparing young people to participate and engage in education, training and employment programs as required; and support the development of their interpersonal and self-regulation skills.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to plan, deliver and refer young people to education, training, and employment.
  • Work effectively within a statutory and non-statutory environment to provide support to young people during education, vocational training, work experience and employment.
  • Collect and maintain accurate data and client records in accordance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
  • Identify, liaise, and maintain strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and community partners.
  • Contribute to a departmental culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.
