Job summary

City of Canterbury Bankstown Council is offering a Trainee Customer Service Officer role in Bankstown, NSW. This two-year Temporary Full-Time traineeship starts February 2027 and combines structured learning with on‑the‑job experience to handle a broad range of enquiries via telephone and face-to-face service.

You will learn Council services, policies, and procedures while developing professional communication and customer service skills in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Be a current Year 12 student, recent school leaver, or early career professional (within 2 years of graduation).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience in a customer service role is not essential but advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, professional customer service across Council’s Call Centre and Customer Service Counter.
• Respond to customer enquiries, transactions and service requests accurately and efficiently.
• Provide information on Council services and refer or escalate enquiries to the appropriate teams when required.
• Communicate professionally and courteously with a diverse range of customers, including in challenging situations.
• Build effective relationships with Council teams to support positive customer outcomes.
• Participate in training and development to build knowledge of Council services, policies and procedures.

As a Trainee Customer Service Officer, you’ll combine structured learning and development with practical, on-the-job experience as part of Council’s Customer Service Team. You’ll gain experience assisting residents, local businesses and the wider community with a broad range of Council enquiries and requests through both telephone and face-to-face customer service.

This is a two-year Temporary Full-Time traineeship, commencing in February 2027, offering the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification while developing practical workplace skills and building a strong foundation for your career in customer service.

The salary range for this opportunity commences at$38,272(T3 at 17 years of age) or$44,746(T4 at 18 years or completed HSC) + 12% super.
