Job summary

Upper Hunter Shire Council is seeking a Trainee Compliance Officer in a 24‑month, temporary full‑time role (35 hours per week). You will learn under experienced staff, enrol in a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services), and contribute to animal welfare, regulatory inspections, and community service across the shire.

You will respond to enquiries, care for animals in the pound, and develop investigations, data entry and customer service skills, with training and support.

Qualifications

• NSW RoSA or equivalent.
• Willingness to enrol in a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or relevant qualification.
• Knowledge of animal handling and interest in Local Government compliance.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Well-developed public relations and customer service skills.
• Genuine interest in animal welfare.
• Ability to participate in on-call and weekend work roster.
• Computer skills: data entry, word processing and spreadsheets.
• High level attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Respond to community enquiries and assist with animal control matters.
• Care for animals in Council’s pound and support regulatory inspections.
