Job summary

Inverell Shire Council is seeking a Compliance Officer to support a wide range of community services within the Environmental Health team. The role includes field enquiries, animal control, nuisance investigations, and environmental monitoring, with training and development opportunities provided.

The position offers on-site work, an on-call allowance, and a pathway to broader local government regulatory roles.

Qualifications

• NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent.
• NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
• NSW Firearms Licence (Category A and B).
• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.
• Understanding of Work Health and Safety Regulations.
• Willingness to undertake training as Council Ranger and Biosecurity functions.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve matters with competing priorities or conflict.
• White Card (Safe Work NSW General Construction Induction).
• Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services).
• Certificate IV in Animal Control & Regulation.
• Certificate IV in Local Government Investigation.
• Understanding of chemical application procedures relating to pesticides/herbicides.
• Demonstrated ability to handle companion animals with confidence.
• SEINS Parking Certificate.
• Accreditation for microchipping companion animals.
• Training in environmental compliance and management functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist administrative/technical staff with field enquiries.
• Rural addressing post location and erection.
• MGB deliveries and investigation of damage complaints.
• Arrange minor building maintenance.
• Companion animal complaints and impounding.
• Assist in euthanasia and micro chipping of animals.
• Nuisance complaint investigation (overgrown vegetation, barking dogs, etc).
• Environmental monitoring of landfills and waste facilities.
• Participate in after hours compliance call out roster.
• Shopping trolley patrols and complaint investigations.
• Littering patrols and investigations.
• Assist Biosecurity with priority weeds inspection and control.
• Assist Parks & Gardens and Civil Engineering crews as needed.
• Car parking patrols and regulate street activities.
• Development compliance monitoring and advice to Development Services staff.
• Other duties compatible with skills and training.
