Job summary

Walcha Council is seeking a field-based role to manage companion animals, parking controls, and sewage inspections across Walcha Shire. You will also provide relief coverage for Uralla Council and deliver community education on animal welfare.

The ideal candidate will hold a Certificate IV in Local Government (or be progressing toward it), have dog handling experience, current First Aid, and knowledge of environmental laws.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or higher in Local Government (or progress toward)
• Dog handling experience or relevant certification
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
• Strong track record in community education and conflict resolution

Responsibilities

• Administer the Companion Animals Act and care for stray animals
• Investigate and resolve customer compliance requests and complaints
• Enforce Shire parking, footway, and public place regulations
• Conduct on-site sewage management inspections and issue approvals
• Deliver community education campaigns on animal welfare and dumping
• Provide shared on-call ranger coverage and leave relief
