Job summary

Queensland Corrective Services – Etna Creek QLD is seeking a Trade Instructor to oversee daily operations within a Correctional Centre. The role includes supervising prisoners in work and program activities and contributing to rehabilitation while ensuring centre security.

The position may require performing other duties as needed beyond the main accountabilities and leveraging vocational trade experience where relevant.

Qualifications

• No mandatory qualifications; possession of a relevant vocational qualification, trade certificate, or equivalent industry experience would be an advantage but not compulsory.
• Trade qualifications and/or experience in engineering/metal fabrication, timber product manufacture, textiles and clothing would be well regarded.
• Certificate in Apply First Aid (HLTAID003). You must obtain this qualification prior to appointment.
• Current C class driver licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Trade Instructors supervise prisoners on a daily basis and actively participate in their rehabilitation through work and program activities.
• They monitor and maintain the security of the correctional centre.
• The incumbent may be required to undertake other duties as required within the primary accountabilities.

The Trade Instructor role controls the daily operations of a business unit (including commercial units where relevant) within a Correctional Centre. Trade Instructors supervise prisoners on a daily basis and actively participate in their rehabilitation through work and program activities and monitor and maintain the security of the correctional centre.

The role description provides the minimum requirements for the role. The incumbent may be required to undertake other duties as required outside of these primary accountabilities.

Other conditions and requirements of the Trade Instructor role:

• Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications for this position, possession of the relevant vocational qualification, trade certificate, or equivalent industry experience would be an advantage but not compulsory.
• Trade qualifications and/or experience in engineering/metal fabrication, timber product manufacture, textiles and clothing (e.g. sheet metal, fitter and turner, tool maker, boiler maker, blacksmith, carpentry, cabinet making, sewing machinist, pattern cutter, overlocker/finisher etc) would be well regarded.
• Certificate in Apply First Aid (HLTAID003). You must obtain this qualification prior to appointment.
• The incumbent must hold a current C class driver licence.
