Job summary

Ventia is seeking a Trade Assistant to support maintenance activities at HMAS Stirling, Garden Island WA, within the Torpedo Maintenance Facility. You will assist tradespeople, operate equipment where qualified, and contribute to safe, efficient workshop operations on Defence assets.

This permanent full-time role offers a Monday–Friday roster, ongoing training, and diverse development opportunities in a challenging Defence environment. NV1 clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in a workshop, maintenance, or trade assistant role.
• Strong safety focus and teamwork.
• Ability to perform physical/manual handling tasks.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence.
• Willing to obtain dogging, rigging, crane and forklift licences.
• Able to pass pre-employment checks (Police Check and medical).

Responsibilities

• Assist tradespeople with maintenance and repair activities in the Torpedo Maintenance Facility.
• Operate plant, machinery and equipment where qualified.
• Perform manual labour and workshop support tasks.
• Assist with tool, equipment and asset management.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping and safe, organized work areas.
• Support the team to meet safety, quality and Defence requirements.

Ventia has exciting opportunities for Trade Assistants to join our Defence Maintenance Contract team based at HMAS Stirling, Garden Island WA. Working within the Torpedo Maintenance Facility, you will perform a variety of hands-on workshop, maintenance and logistical support activities, contributing to the maintenance and operational readiness of specialised Defence equipment.

About The Role

• Assist tradespeople with maintenance and repair activities within the Torpedo Maintenance Facility.

• Perform manual labour and workshop support tasks associated with maintenance activities.
• Assist with tool, equipment and asset management activities.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping and ensure work areas remain safe and organised.
• Support the team in delivering maintenance outcomes in line with safety, quality and Defence requirements.

About You

• Experience in a workshop, maintenance, trade assistant or similar hands-on environment.
• Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
• Ability to perform physical and manual handling duties.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence.
• Current Dogging, Rigging, Crane and Forklift licences/tickets are highly regarded, or the willingness and ability to obtain them.
• Be willing and able to successfully complete all required pre-employment checks, including but not limited to a Police Check and medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing).

You must be an Australian Citizen and be able to maintain a current Defence Security Clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1).
