Job summary

St Vincent's Health Australia invites applications for a Theatre Orderly at the Mater Hospital, Sydney, NSW. This permanent full-time role (38 hours) supports theatre staff, prepares the operating room, and ensures available equipment to deliver safe patient care.

You will collaborate with nurses and managers, participate in departmental meetings, and keep up to date with current procedures and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Previous hospital or Operating Room experience.
  • Commitment to attending conferences and lectures as identified as requirements for this position.
  • Knowledge of Department of Health Guidelines, Workplace Health & Safety and Infection Control.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist theatre staff to transport patients within the Operating Suite from Reception and Day Stay Unit to the appropriate Theatre, Recovery, and Reception for discharge.
  • Assist with preparations of the Operating Room table and its attachments for varying surgical procedures.
  • Ensure adequate equipment is present for each Operating Room.
  • Work with the Nurse Managers and colleagues to provide optimal service to all customers, including patients, VMOs, and nursing staff.
  • Participate in the Surgical Services Department and hospital staff meetings and education programs.
  • Continuously update knowledge in new treatments, practices, and equipment to ensure the delivery of the highest standard of care.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and legislative requirements in relation to Workplace Health & Safety, Bullying & Harassment in the Workplace Policy.
  • Comply with the requirements of the WH&S Act and all relevant WHS, and injury management policies and procedures.

About The Role

About The Mater:

In this role you will be based at the Mater hospital, North Sydney.

  • One of Sydney’s premier private hospitals.
  • Close by to train stations at North Sydney, St Leonards, and Crows Nest, and buses on Pacific Highway.
  • The only Australian hospital that is a member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres.
  • Core specialties include Obstetrics, Orthopaedics including hip and knee joint replacements, bone and sports injuries, cardiology, cancer care and surgery, lung and vascular medicine, ear, nose and throat surgery, urology, endocrine surgery, and neurosurgery.
