Qualifications

• AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in telecommunications or closely related field, or 3+ years experience in telecom.
• Minimum 1 year in telecom network planning, design or technical support.
• Good knowledge of telecom network infrastructure and customer access networks.
• Ability to read network designs and technical drawings, with strong documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan development of customer access telecom network infrastructure (capacity, coverage, hardware, software).
• Forecast future capacity needs to design network upgrades and expansions.
• Install, maintain, diagnose malfunctions in microwave, telemetry, satellite and radio systems.

About the role

CHEEMA BRISBANE PTY LTD is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Telecommunications Network Planner to join our team at our Coopers Plains location in Brisbane.

The successful applicant will plan the development of customer access telecommunications network infrastructure, provide technical advice and support, and monitor the performance of our telecommunications networks and equipment. This is a full-time, ongoing position of 38 hours per week.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Planning the development of customer access telecommunications network infrastructure, including capacity, coverage, hardware and software requirements
• Analysing network requirements and forecasting future capacity needs to design and schedule network upgrades and expansions
• Installing, maintaining, repairing and diagnosing malfunctions in microwave, telemetry, multiplexing, satellite and other radio and electromagnetic wave communication systems
• Configuring and integrating network and telecommunications technology with computer software, hardware, desktops, peripherals, databases and operating systems
• Providing technical advice and information to clients, contractors and internal teams, and monitoring the performance of complex telecommunications networks and equipment
• Providing ongoing operational support in designing, optimising, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing and resolving telecommunications network performance malfunctions, defects and faults
• Developing and recording logs of the details, locations and status of inventories, parts, equipment and instruments
• Maintaining documentation of communications policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations, and quality standards
• Liaising with vendors, suppliers, service providers and external resources, and monitoring contractual obligations and performance delivery
• Ensuring all network planning and installation work complies with relevant Australian telecommunications standards, regulations and workplace health and safety requirements
• Preparing estimates of time, materials and cost for network planning projects and coordinating with technical teams during implementation

Essential

• An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in telecommunications, network engineering, electronics, information technology or a closely related discipline (ANZSCO Skill Level 2); or at least three years of relevant work experience and/or relevant vendor certification in lieu of the formal qualification
• A minimum of one year of relevant experience in telecommunications network planning, design or technical support
• Sound working knowledge of telecommunications network infrastructure, transmission systems and customer access networks
• Ability to interpret network designs, technical drawings and specifications
• Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Accurate documentation and record-keeping skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to liaise with vendors, clients and internal teams
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines

Desirable

• Relevant vendor certifications (for example Cisco, Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei or equivalent)
• Experience with network planning, design or GIS tools
• Knowledge of Australian telecommunications standards and regulatory requirements
• A current Australian driver's licence
