The Telecommunications Technical Officer or Technologist will support installations, monitor performance, diagnose faults and maintain records, working to approved designs and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Telecommunications Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in telecommunications network installation, testing, maintenance and fault diagnosis.
• Ability to interpret network plans, technical drawings and equipment specifications.
• Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and workplace safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the specialised design, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support of telecommunications networks and associated equipment.
• Interpret network plans, technical drawings, equipment specifications, work instructions and client requirements to determine installation and configuration requirements.
• Select suitable telecommunications equipment, components, cabling, tools and testing instruments in accordance with network designs and technical specifications.
• Configure and integrate telecommunications network equipment with relevant computer hardware, software, databases, peripherals and operating systems.
• Install, test and commission telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure, confirming connectivity, signal quality and compliance with design requirements.
• Monitor network and equipment performance, analyse test results and identify capacity, reliability, connectivity and service-quality issues.
• Diagnose telecommunications network faults, equipment failures and performance problems using appropriate diagnostic tools, testing instruments and technical procedures.
• Repair, replace, adjust and upgrade faulty telecommunications equipment, components and network connections to restore services and minimise disruption.
• Optimise network configurations and equipment settings to improve network performance, reliability, coverage and service quality.
• Provide ongoing operational support by troubleshooting and resolving network malfunctions, defects, faults and service interruptions.
• Maintain accurate records of network assets, installed equipment, inventory, test results, fault reports, repairs, maintenance activities and completed work.
• Prepare technical reports and provide advice to management, field personnel, contractors and clients regarding installations, network performance and fault resolution.
• Liaise with suppliers, service providers, contractors and other technical personnel regarding equipment, technical requirements and service delivery.
• Perform work in accordance with telecommunications regulations, relevant technical and quality standards, company procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.
