Technology Architecture Lead | Enterprise Architecture
The Opportunity
We're partnering with a large, complex Queensland organisation seeking an experienced Technology Architecture Lead for an initial six-month contract.
The organisation is investing in uplifting its Enterprise Architecture capability and is looking for an experienced architect to take ownership of establishing the standards, frameworks and strategic direction for its enterprise technology landscape.
This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact, shaping how technology architecture is governed, documented and delivered across the organisation.
Rather than focusing on individual solution designs, you'll be responsible for establishing the architectural foundations, reusable patterns and governance practices that will guide future technology investments and delivery.
The Role Working within the Enterprise Architecture function, you'll take ownership of the Technology Architecture domain, covering Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud, enterprise infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, hosting and associated enterprise platforms.
You'll collaborate with fellow Domain Architects, Solution Architects, Infrastructure, Security and Technology Delivery teams to establish consistent, practical and sustainable architecture practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess and document current-state technology architecture across enterprise infrastructure, cloud and hosting environments.
- Define target-state architecture, transition states and strategic technology roadmaps.
- Establish enterprise technology architecture principles, standards, reference architectures and reusable design patterns.
- Develop architectural frameworks covering Azure landing zones, hybrid-cloud connectivity, networking, identity, compute, storage and hosting.
- Establish architecture standards for high availability, disaster recovery, resilience, infrastructure automation and platform engineering.
- Build and populate the enterprise architecture repository, creating reusable frameworks for future projects.
- Develop technology lifecycle management approaches, including technical debt assessments, platform modernisation and migration planning.
- Provide architecture governance, design assurance and technical guidance to Solution Architects and delivery teams.
- Collaborate with other architecture specialists to ensure alignment across enterprise technology domains.
- Transfer knowledge and embed sustainable architecture practices within internal teams.
About You
We're looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect, Technology Architect or Infrastructure Domain Architect who has demonstrated experience establishing or uplifting enterprise architecture capabilities.
You'll bring a combination of strong technical knowledge, strategic thinking and the ability to translate architecture principles into practical, reusable frameworks.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Substantial experience in Enterprise, Technology or Infrastructure Architecture within complex enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise across Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud, enterprise infrastructure and networking.
- Demonstrated experience developing current-state and target-state architectures, technology strategies and roadmaps.
- Experience establishing architecture standards, principles, reference architectures and reusable technology patterns.
- Strong knowledge of Azure landing zones, cloud governance, identity, networking, hosting, backup and disaster recovery.
- Experience with architecture governance, design assurance, technology lifecycle management and modernisation.
- An understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, platform engineering and operational resilience.
- Experience collaborating across Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Security and Infrastructure teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and documentation skills.
Highly regarded:
- Previous experience establishing or uplifting an Enterprise Architecture function or technology architecture domain.
- Experience within utilities, government, critical infrastructure or other highly regulated environments.
- Exposure to SAP hosting and integration dependencies, including SAP on Azure.
- TOGAF or relevant Microsoft Azure and infrastructure architecture certifications.
What Will Make You Successful?
- A builder: You've previously established architecture standards, frameworks or governance practices rather than simply maintaining existing ones.
- Collaborative: You enjoy working alongside other architects and technical specialists, sharing knowledge and aligning approaches.
- Pragmatic: You understand that architecture needs to be practical, actionable and useful to delivery teams.
- Self-sufficient: You're comfortable taking ownership of a domain and driving tangible outcomes within a defined timeframe.
- Outcome-focused: You can balance strategic architecture with the practical needs of a complex operating environment.
What's on Offer?
- Initial six-month contract with a major Queensland organisation.
- Opportunity to shape and establish an enterprise technology architecture capability.
- Work across a complex technology landscape with meaningful modernisation and governance objectives.
- Collaborate with experienced architecture and technology professionals.
- Flexible working arrangements, with on-site collaboration required for key meetings and workshops.
We welcome applications from architects who can demonstrate relevant enterprise-level experience and a practical, collaborative approach to architecture delivery.
