Cummins Inc. is seeking a Technician - Field Service (2/1 FIFO) for our Newman team. You will service and repair heavy diesel engines across mining and power generation, on a 2/1 FIFO roster with Perth flights and 7-day breaks.

The role requires heavy vehicle mechanical qualifications, field service experience, strong diagnostics, and a commitment to safety, documentation, and customer service.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification as Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Australian standards).
  • Field service experience with diesel engines preferred.
  • Solid diagnostic and IT capabilities.
  • Hitachi/Komatsu/Liebherr experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide breakdown and scheduled maintenance to clients in mining and power gen.

Technician - Field Service (2/1 FIFO)

We are looking for a talented Technician - Field Service (2/1 FIFO) to join our Newman team specialising in engine maintenance and repairs across Mining and Power Generation applications. You will provide breakdown and scheduled maintenance service to our clients in the Pilbara region. The role operates on a 2/1 roster flying in and out of Perth. Flights are within the 14 Days, to allow a full 7 day’s break.

Description
  • Deliver a first-class service to our customers across, mining, automotive and power generation
  • Complete repairs and maintenance of heavy diesel products on breakdowns and mine sites
  • Diagnose and repair various engines.
  • Engine rebuilding and reconditioning
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant Health Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and report any issues / incidents to the Field Service Supervisor
  • Complete required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
Experience
  • Mechanical trades qualified as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (to Australian standards)
  • Experience as a Diesel Mechanic in the service and maintenance of HHP heavy diesel products in field service. Cummins engines is highly preferred.
  • Solid diagnostic and IT capabilities
  • Hitachi/ Komatsu & Liebherr Experience Highly Desirable

  • Electrical Knowledge - Demonstrates knowledge of Cummins and industry standards on working with low and/or high voltage by complying with all safe work procedures including Personal Protective Equipment to create a safe work environment; applies basic electrical theories and electronics components knowledge using appropriate tools and procedures to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently.
  • Electronic Service Tool Application - Identifies the suite of available hardware and software tools required for a service event; utilizes the appropriate electronic tool set to maintain the product or diagnose and troubleshoot an issue; interprets electronic tool results or recommendations to determine next steps for service resolution.
  • Mechanical Knowledge - Demonstrates knowledge of Cummins and industry standards by complying with all safe work procedures including Personal Protective Equipment to create a safe work environment; applies mechanical principles and theories using appropriate tools and procedures to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently.
  • Product Repair and Maintenance - Repairs and maintains mechanical/electrical products following guidelines, using required tools within standard repair time to ensure a quality repair; disassembles and assembles engines or power generators following guidelines, using required tools to ensure a clean and organized environment; inspects and replaces parts and components following re‑use guidelines to minimize customers cost of ownership; performs progressive damage check following guidelines to restore to pre‑failure condition.
  • Service Documentation - Creates and verifies customer, equipment and technical information; captures specific data using required service tools; follows procedures and documents required information in the service management system in order to have an accurate record of the work done.
  • Technical Escalation - Obtains product technical issue information and utilizes available resources including data management tools; elevates issues to a higher level of expertise, balancing timeliness of customer response with investigation efforts; captures all troubleshooting steps in the appropriate database in order to ensure seamless transitions and accurate response to ticket resolution in a timely manner.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred).
  • Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution.
  • Locally valid driving permit.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
  • Minimal level of workshop related experience required.
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products.
  • Locally valid driving permit.
  • Mechanical trades qualified as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (to Australian standards)
  • Experience as a Diesel Mechanic in the service and maintenance of HHP heavy diesel products in field service. Cummins engines is highly preferred.
