Job summary

ABB Renewables Division is seeking a Technical Support & Field Service Engineer to deliver on-site technical support for wind, solar and battery energy storage systems in Australia. You will troubleshoot equipment, perform service activities, and deliver high-quality customer experiences in a fast-paced field environment.

You’ll work with cross-functional teams and coach junior technicians while aligning with ABB safety standards and quality guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or mechatronics or related technical field.
• Valid NSW Electrical License.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in field service engineering, technical support or similar roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide field service and technical support for renewable energy installations.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process failures; document service activities.
• Deliver superior customer experiences and identify opportunities to improve operations.
• Prepare comprehensive customer reports and documentation for service activities.

Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide technical assistance and field service support for renewable energy installations, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions that drive customer satisfaction. Each day, you will execute service work and technical support activities according to customer expectations and ABB quality standards, troubleshooting equipment and ensuring optimal performance of renewable energy systems. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying business opportunities for ABB, coaching junior technicians, and delivering superior customer experiences across solar, wind, and battery energy storage installations.

The work model for the role is: onsite

This role is contributing to the Renewables Division (check with hiring manager whether this is a business line or a division) in Australia. Main stakeholders are customers in the renewable energy sector (wind, solar, BESS), internal engineering teams, sales and account managers, project teams, and the Division's Renewable Power business line.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Executing field service work and technical support for renewable energy installations in accordance with ABB standards, quality requirements, and safety guidelines
• Troubleshooting equipment and process failures, implementing proactive corrective actions, and documenting all service activities using relevant support tools
• Ensuring customer retention by delivering superior service experiences, effectively communicating timelines and expectations, and identifying opportunities to improve customer operations
• Collaborating with account teams to identify new service business opportunities and preparing comprehensive customer reports and documentation.

Qualifications for the role

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics in Engineering or related technical field.
• Valid NSW Electrical License.
• You are highly skilled in technical troubleshooting, diagnostic tools, and field service methodologies and the renewable energy market
• Ability to demonstrate your experience in electrical, mechanical, or control systems.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in field service engineering, technical support, or similar roles is mandatory.
• Working as a Field Service Engineer or Technical Support Engineer with power electronics, inverters, control systems, or renewable energy technologies.
• Possess an enhanced knowledge of SCADA systems, PLC programming, and diagnostic software platforms.
• You are passionate about customer service excellence and problem-solving in challenging field environments.
• You hold current Driver's License
