Job summary

Asset College in Victoria is seeking an experienced Technical Security Trainer & Assessor to join our team. You will deliver practical training and assessment across security programs, drawing on real-world CCTV, alarms, access control and cabling experience to prepare the next generation of technicians.

You will engage students, assess their performance, maintain industry connections and contribute to course development.

Qualifications

• Substantial current or recent experience as a security technician or closely related role.
• Current Victorian Security Equipment Installer licence.
• TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
• Open Cabling Registration and White Card.
• Working Safely at Heights and Confined Spaces competencies.
• Strong hands-on installation, testing and fault-finding of electronic security systems.
• Structured, Optical Fibre and Coaxial cabling competencies when delivering those activities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical training and assessment across CPP20326, CPP30519, ICTSS00084, ICTSS00086.
• Train and assess students on CCTV, alarms, access control and related systems.
• Maintain strong industry connections and contribute to course development.
• Guide students through installation, testing and fault-finding in real-world scenarios.

What you’ll be training

You’ll deliver practical training and assessment across programs including:

• CPP20326 Certificate II in Technical Security
• CPP30519 Certificate III in Technical Security
• ICTSS00084 Basic Open Cabler Registration Skill Set
• ICTSS00086 ACMA Advanced Cabler Registration Skill Set

Depending on your experience and vocational competencies, training may cover:

• CCTV and video surveillance systems
• Electronic intruder alarm systems
• Access control systems
• Intercom and related security systems
• Installation, testing and commissioning
• Diagnostics and fault finding
• Data and telecommunications cabling
• Structured cabling
• Optical fibre and coaxial cabling
• Technical documentation and compliance

This isn’t a role where you’ll simply work through PowerPoint presentations.

We want our students learning from people who understand the equipment, the installation environment, the problems technicians encounter in the field and what good workmanship actually looks like.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for substantial current or recent experience as a security technician or in a closely related technical security role.

Essential requirements include:

• Current Victorian Security Equipment Installer licence
• TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or another trainer and assessor credential that meets current RTO requirements
• Open Cabling Registration
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Current Working Safely at Heights competency
• Current Confined Spaces competency
• Relevant technical security qualifications and vocational competencies
• Strong practical experience installing, testing, commissioning and fault-finding electronic security systems
• Relevant Structured, Optical Fibre and Coaxial cabling competencies are also required where delivering or assessing those activities.
