Job summary

Hidrive Group Pty Ltd is seeking a technically minded Technical Sales & Solutions Specialist – Automotive in Derrimut, Melbourne. You will work closely with customers, Sales, Design & Engineering to translate requirements into practical, commercially viable vehicle fit-outs.

You will gather technical requirements, assess feasibility, support tenders and pricing, and coordinate across departments to deliver practical customer solutions. Previous trade or engineering experience is advantageous.

Technical Sales & Solutions Specialist – Automotive

Whether your experience comes from utilities, general contracting, automotive or a related technical industry, you’ll understand the importance of practical solutions that work in the field.Hidrive is seeking a technically minded professional to join our Derrimut, Melbourne team, helping customers turn their operational requirements into vehicle fit-out solutions.You might be an experienced tradesperson looking to move off the tools, or already working in technical sales, estimating, service advisory or project coordination.

We welcome both mechanical and electrical backgrounds.

About the role

Working closely with customers, Sales, Design & Engineering and Operations, you’ll understand what customers need from their vehicles and translate those requirements into practical, accurate and commercially viable solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Understanding customers’ day-to-day operations, the equipment they carry and how their vehicles support their work.
• Gathering and validating technical requirements for service bodies, accessories, equipment integration and mechanical or electrical fit-outs.
• Applying your technical knowledge to assess feasibility and resolve enquiries.Identifying when specialist Engineering input is required, providing clear requirements and coordinating scope, timelines and communication.
• Supporting proposals, tenders and quotations and taking ownership of final customer pricing to ensure accuracy and appropriate margins.
• Managing enquiries through our HubSpot Engineering Pipeline and maintaining accurate specifications and customer updates.
• Developing your knowledge of Hidrive’s products, manufacturing capabilities and relevant compliance requirements, including ADR and OEM standards.
• Working across departments to deliver practical customer solutions and improve our processes.

About you

You bring technical knowledge, practical judgement and the confidence to work directly with customers. We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting, designing or delivering solutions for:

• Utilities: gas, power distribution, water or telecommunications.
• General contracting: HVAC, plumbing, electrical or civil works.

Your experience might involve vehicle and equipment specifications, service and maintenance operations, technical designs, quoting or coordinating customer projects. An understanding of how field crews use their vehicles, tools and equipment will be highly regarded.

You’ll also bring:

• A trade qualification, engineering qualification or equivalent technical background, with at least three years’ relevant industry experience.
• Strong mechanical or electrical knowledge and a willingness to learn across Hidrive’s broader product range.
• The ability to interpret technical information, ask the right questions and assess whether a proposed solution will work.
• Clear communication skills and confidence explaining technical options and constraints.
• An organised approach, attention to detail and ownership of enquiries through to resolution.
• Commercial awareness and an interest in developing your pricing and technical sales skills.
• Confidence using computers and learning new systems.

Your experience with customers, quoting and coordinating jobs counts—even if it was gained within a trade role. Previous employment in a dedicated technical sales position is not essential.
